History of the cocktail
The Whiskey Sour is one of the forefathers of the classic cocktail world - its structure is as simple as it is ingenious: Spirit, acidity, sweetness. Its first written mention can be found in Jerry Thomas' "Bartender's Guide" in 1862 - but it was most likely drunk long before that, especially on sailing ships to prevent scurvy. The combination of Lemon and alcohol was pragmatic - today it is a cult.
The popularity of the drink is easy to explain: The Whiskey Sour is a perfect balance between sweetness and acidity, with the strong backbone of a good whiskey. In this variation, we use Maker's Marka Kentucky Straight Bourbon, which, with its softer, almost creamy profile, goes perfectly with fresh lemon juice. The result is a round, balanced sour - with body, depth and elegance.
Traditionally, whiskey sours are also served with egg white to create a creamy head. Here we deliberately present the Classic version without protein - purist, direct, no frills.
The drink is served in a tumbler - classically on ice, with a squeezed out Orange zest as an aromatic finish.
Today, the whiskey sour is making a real comeback: it stands for a return to the roots of the art of mixing - and proves that you can make history with three ingredients.
A drink that never goes out of fashion. And always shows attitude.
Fun Fact
The Whiskey Sour was the most popular cocktail in the USA until well into the 20th century - even before the Old Fashioned or Manhattan.
